A house with a history, reflected in harmony and material
Behind a modest façade lay hidden a traditional townhouse, which has now been fully redesigned by interior architect Jill and her partner. For Jill, the property, which others regarded as a risk, represented an opportunity. “I could instantly see past the façade and the interior and recognise the potential,” she explains. While renovating, the couple discovered original mouldings that lay hidden behind the suspended ceilings. “That particular moment made it all worthwhile,” admits Jill. “The house's soul was still there – all we needed to do was uncover it again.”
Black forms the unobtrusive common thread
Jill's interior style is a blend of timelessness and warmth, with a dash of individuality. Its eye-catching feature, for instance, consists of dark green tiles, walnut veneer and paint that displays its soft depths. “We mostly used warm, natural materials such as walnut, soft fabrics and highly textured paint, which creates a sense of tranquillity and continuity,” says Jill. That tranquillity is also reflected in the fine details of the interior. “Niko Intense matt black coated is a simple, minimalist range that doesn't stand out too much. It blends together well with our black luminaires and the black taps, thereby creating a tranquil and coherent whole.”
A cross-fertilisation of comfort, functionality and style
Jill was already familiar with Niko from earlier projects carried out by her interior design studio Spaces by Jill. “What appeals to me most is the combination of quality and price, plus the wide range of types and colours of switching material. Niko offers attractive options for any interior.” In addition to aesthetics, practical comfort and convenience also play a major role. “Many of our sockets are connected, which means we can operate our table lamps via a light switch,” concludes Jill.
