De Lakerberg is an independent municipal primary school located in Houthalen-Helchteren. The school equipped the new classrooms with daylight control from Niko. Director Ingrid Tulpin: “For our alderman for education, the ecological aspect was very important. And, here at the school, we are very happy about that.”
Engineer-architect Felix Vaes, managing director of Engineering and Architecture Agency, ESSA, confirms: “The municipal administration of Houthalen-Helchteren considers sustainable building to be of paramount importance. The expansion of the school had to be ready to usher in a green future. In the plans, we provided for extensive insulation, a floor heating system, a heat pump and a high-performance ventilation system. We also insisted that the building be as airtight as possible.” As a result, the new construction has an E-level of 21. A value you almost only ever see in a passive building.
